Disability Support Workers

We're seeking a multiple dedicated and skilled Disability Support Workers with experience in spinal cord injury care, You'll work collaboratively with the participant and his support team to implement his care plan, support him accessing the community, maintain his home environment, and assist with personal care needs in a respectful and empowering manner.

About the Participant

You'll be supporting a 39-year-old male with:

• Atrial spinal cord injury (C5 level)
• Limited mobility (unable to move body from waist down)
• Wheelchair user for all mobility needs
• Mental health support needs
• Skin integrity considerations
• Incontinence management (uses catheter)

What You Will Be Doing

• Personal Care: Assistance with showering, dressing, grooming, and toileting
• Transfers: Safe use of hoists and manual handling equipment
• Community Access: Supporting the client to engage in community activities and social outings
• Domestic Tasks: Light household duties, meal preparation, and maintaining a clean environment
• Social Support: Building rapport, providing companionship, and supporting mental health and wellbeing
• Health Monitoring: Observing and reporting any changes in skin integrity, health status, or wellbeing to clinical staff
• Collaboration: Working alongside clinical nurses and other healthcare professionals

Highly Desirable Experience & Skills

• Demonstrated experience supporting people with spinal cord injuries and physical disabilities
• Experience with personal care, including catheter care and continence management, and skin integrity monitoring
• Calm, patient approach in challenging situations
• Understanding of pressure injury prevention and skin care protocols
• Experience supporting people with psychosocial disabilities
• Patient, non-judgemental approach to supporting individuals

 Minimum Requirements

• Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or equivalent
• NDIS Worker Screening Check
• Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
• National Police Check
• Working with Children Check
• Drivers Licence with reliable vehicle
