Location: Fawkner, VIC
Hours: 9 hours per week divided into 3 separate morning shifts
About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Disability Support Worker to support an adult participant living with schizophrenia. Support is provided in the participant’s home in Fawkner and focuses on community access, companionship and domestic assistance.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting individuals with mental health needs, be patient and adaptable, and take a calm, person-centred approach to building trust and routine.
Due to the participant’s personal and cultural needs, this role is suitable for female support workers.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide companionship and supportive engagement during visits.
- Assist with community access, including transport to local shops, appointments, or activities.
- Support the participant with maintaining routine, task initiation, and gentle prompting.
- Provide light domestic assistance such as tidying, dishes, or surface cleaning.
- Support with shopping, errands, and basic community participation.
- Monitor and support the participant’s anxiety levels using a calm, trauma-informed approach.
- Encourage independence and involvement in meaningful daily activities.
- Complete clear and accurate progress notes after each shift.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in disability, mental health, or community support roles.
- Demonstrated experience supporting participants with schizophrenia or similar mental health conditions.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (current).
- First Aid & CPR certifications.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle for transport support.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Calm, patient, and person-centred approach with a focus on empowerment and routine.
- Basic computer skills for documentation.
