About Bravery Trust
Bravery Trust is a unique, nationally operated ACNC registered charity that supports current and former members of the Australian Defence Force, and their families, experiencing financial hardship. We provide financial education & capability and financial counselling for current and former defence members, and financial assistance to those who are in financial hardship and have suffered injury or illness as a result of their service. Bravery Trust is a part of the Ex-service Organisation (ESO) sector which provides assistance to veterans and members of the defence community.
The work we do is critical, and we aim to quickly achieve an outcome for veterans and their families with respect and dignity.
Position Overview
The Intake Worker will respond to requests from the veteran community and ex service organisations. The role will be responsible for response, triage, intake and wait listing (if required) of veterans seeking Financial Assistance, Financial Capability or Financial Counselling sitting within the Operations Team (Veteran Services).
The Intake Worker will support veterans through the intake process and triage for level of urgency, connecting through to the service they require.
The role works collaboratively as a member of a national team that provide intake, financial assistance, referrals, support services and financial counselling to veterans.
Team members use their strong interpersonal skills to compassionately work with veterans to understand their overall circumstance and to provide a non-judgemental and supportive service experience.
As a national charity which delivers service via online consultation, phone and email this position is delivered in a remote capacity with some interstate travel required.
This role will be full-time fixed term until 30 June 2026.
Accountability
The position reports to the Financial Counselling & Capability Manager.
Employment is subject to the completion of a six-month probationary period, which may be extended
The employee will be subject to an annual performance review linked to objectives set out for the position
Duties and Responsibilities
Link applicants and veterans with other services that they may require, internally or external to Bravery Trust, particularly if the veteran is seeking support not provided by Bravery Trust
Completion of the intake and triage process
Maintaining accurate and up to date case notes and data
Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
Work closely with the Financial Capability Team, The Financial Counselling Team, Manager Financial Counselling & Capability and the Head of Operations
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Bravery Trust Policy and Government legislation
Provide support to veterans, over the telephone and by email, in a respectful, trauma informed and non-judgmental manner
Skills and Qualifications
Certificate III in Community Services Work, equivalent or higher relevant qualification
Must hold, or be willing to obtain Financial Literacy Education skill set comprising 3 units
CHCEDU005 - Work with clients to identify financial literacy education needs
CHCEDU006 - Improve clients' fundamental financial literacy skills, and
CHCEDU007 - Provide group education on consumer credit and debt
OR
Hold, be newly qualified or undertaking the Diploma of Financial Counselling
Ability to undertake complex telephone assessments, obtain accurate information and prioritise actions
The provision of compassionate and understanding client engagement
Compassion for people impacted by mental health concerns, alcohol/ drugs, impaired cognitive issues and families in crisis
Ability to make objective assessment and manage complex and emotional conversations
Capacity to quickly learn and operate with guidance in a remote team environment
Understanding of the social services system and ability to collaborate with other professionals
Be an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills together with having compassion, empathy and comfortable working with clients via phone and email
Demonstrated administrative and computer skills
Ability to work autonomously and be a flexible member of the team
Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise workload
Current National Police Check or willingness to undergo a police check
