Join our passionate Ageing Well team at Nillumbik Shire Council and make a real difference in the community! As the Social Connections Officer you will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating initiatives, programs and activities that foster social connections for people over 55 living in Nillumbik. In this dynamic role, your day-to-day work will involve engaging with community members, implementing programs and events, liaising with key stakeholders and identifying and addressing barriers to social connection. You will also play a key role in supporting the broader Ageing Well initiatives across Council.

Types of programs and initiatives you will develop and implement as the Social Connections Officer:


Intergenerational activities.
Digital literacy programs.
Mental health support programs.
Grants programs.
Social Support Group (Commonwealth Home Support Program).
Ageing Well in Nillumbik Newsletter.
Seniors Festival.
Community events (social lunches, morning teas etc.)

What you will bring to the role:


Tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Community Development, or a related field; or substantial experience in the Community Services sector.

Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and engage with members of the community.

Relevant experience in partnering with external agencies who support an ageing community.

Ability to effectively recruit, induct, support and manage volunteers.

Experience in program development including scoping, planning, and evaluating programs/projects.

Demonstrated achievements in community engagement, customer service excellence and continuous improvement in service delivery.

Knowledge of the Commonwealth's aged care policy directions and how this affects Council, the work of the unit, and the broader community.

Ability to advocate for, or report on issues affecting community members experiencing, or at risk of, loneliness and social isolation.
